Martingale Size Guide
Our size guide is here to help! You will find a list of breeds each collar size is 'Best Suited To' with 'Recommended Width' based on the breeds size and build, Please keep in mind, our size guide is a rough guide based on the average neck size for the breeds stated. There are always exceptions and we strongly advise that you measure your dogs neck accurately before ordering and ask you to not go solely off of the guide. The recommended width is based on the collar being used as a functional collar for everyday activities.
The Martingale is not recommended as a decorative or tag holder collar due to design making it more likely to get caught on things, causing harm to the dog.
Widths available are 16mm, 20mm, 1", 1.5" and 2"
The martingale collar, sometimes known as a limited slip collar, is often used for dogs able to slip out of a regular collar. The unique design of the collar prevents accidents like backing out of the collar or it accidentally slipping over their head. Martingales are often used in certain breeds due to their head and neck shape. For example, sighthounds, like the Greyhound, have narrow shaped heads that are the same width as their necks. This means the average collar slips straight off. Other breeds often known for using martingales are bully breeds like the Staffordshire Bull Terrier; stockier breeds like the Rottweiler and even some gun dogs like Pointers. None the less, martingales are a great, safe option if you happen to have one of those dogs who can wriggle out of anything!
